Tyrone hurler Damian Casey has died aged 29. The Dungannon man was one of many county’s best hurlers, having scored 0-12 within the 2022 Nickey Rackard Cup ultimate win over Roscommon.

Tyrone GAA is in mourning following the demise of the county’s hurling star Damian Casey.

The Dungannon man had been enjoying with the Purple Fingers since 2012, and was thought to be one of many best hurlers the county ever produced.

Casey top-scored for Tyrone in final month’s Nickey Rackard Cup ultimate at Croke Park. He contributed 0-12 within the recreation, to assist his county to a 1-27 to 0-19 win over Roscommon.

“This breaking information is past perception,” stated Tyrone county chair Michael Kerr.

“Somebody who introduced honour, delight and easy, easy gladness to our complete county, and much past, is gone and it is so exhausting to absorb.”

“Gamers throughout Eire are devastated for the household and associates of Damian Casey and for all in Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh and Tyrone GAA,” added a press release from the Gaelic Gamers Affiliation.

“Damian stood out as an individual and chief. On the pitch he was a magician of uncommon ability. He was one among us. He was among the many better of us. RIP Damian.”

There was a minute’s silence held in Casey’s honour earlier than the All-Eire Senior Hurling Championship quarter-finals at Semple Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
